WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Thanks to four goals from Amelia Schroeder and one from Megan Prigge, the Sabercats got revenge on Spurgeon College and their second win in a row on Friday afternoon.

Spurgeon scored in the first minute of the game but the Sabercats had their answer. Schroeder now has nine goals on the season.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 5-1 Spurgeon
  • Venue: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Location: Watertown, Wis.
  • Attendance: 50
  • Record: MBU (2-6-0), SC (1-4-0)

STORY

The Knights wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet, scoring with just 57 seconds off the clock to put the Sabercats on the defensive early on. But it took the Sabercats just 10 minutes to come up with a reply, as Schroeder knocked in her first goal of the game and her sixth of the season.

The game turned into an offensive explosion early on, as the two teams combined for 53 shots on the game, forcing a combined 16 saves from the goalkeepers while four shots clattered against the crossbar in a 90-minute finishing frenzy.

It was tense until the 75th minute. And it was Schroeder who quickly put the game away with two goals in a minute. The first was a trademarked run, as Schroeder collected the ball at midfield before swerving her way through the Spurgeon defense to create her own breakaway. As the goalkeeper came out to challenge the shot, Schroeder shot it over her into the back of the net.

Just a few seconds later, Schroeder completed her hat-trick in style, running onto a long pass from Lauren Schmidt and looping her shot up and over the Spurgeon goalkeeper. Just like that, Schroeder had buried the Knights.

Prigge got in on the action around the 81-minute mark, smashing a one-time shot at the top of the box into the roof of the net. Prigge's cannon was lit by Olivia Cansler, who rolled an inviting pass into Prigge's path for an eye-catching fourth.

Schroeder capped the scoring off just a few minutes later. After Prigge sent in a cross to the back post, Schroeder collected the loose ball, cut it to her right foot, and touched it into the corner to cap the scoring, complete her four-goal performance, and give the Sabercats their second straight win.
