Borchardt Steps Down
April 15, 2022 | by Taylor Pill
WATERTOWN, Wis. -- After representing the program for 10 seasons as a student-athlete and a coach, Joel Borchardt is stepping down as head coach of Maranatha Men's Basketball.
Borchardt joined the coaching staff in 2016 as an Associate Head Coach under Keith Salscheider, and eventually took the role over for the 2019-20 season. Borchardt led the team to a 24-40 record over his three seasons and had the added challenge of steering the team through a shortened 2020-21 season, which was abbreviated to just 15 games due to COVID-19 protocols.
As a player, Borchardt was unparalleled, as he was the only NCCAA 1st-Team All-American of the last decade, and one of just seven in the history of the program. Borchardt was the Northern Athletics Conference Freshman of the Year in 2009-10 and compiled 1,208 career points - 12th in program history.

"We thank Joel for his six years of service to the men’s basketball program," said Maranatha's Athletic Director, Rob Thompson. "Three years as an assistant coach, and these past three seasons as the head coach. We wish him all the best in his next endeavor."
