WATERTOWN, Wis. -- On another sweltering afternoon in Watertown, the Sabercats wished they could have erased a certain stretch of 10 minutes of the first half, as they fell to MSOE.
The Sabercats had a sluggish start offensively but were able to frustrate the Raiders with an organized defense. Andrew Taylor came up big with a big save to deny the Raiders a goal from the penalty spot, but MSOE found the breakthrough in the 35th minute through Sam Gianakos.
The woes began there for the Sabercats, as they conceded 4 goals in a 10-minute stretch, including 3 goals in 3 minutes. Braden Andryk, Stephen Bagin and Peyton Tebon all found the back of the net in quick succession, and the Raiders held a 0-4 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Sabercats held the Raiders scoreless until the final 10 minutes, when Tebon took advantage of a missed clearance to score his second goal of the game.
Taylor made 10 saves in the loss, and Tim Kinzler made his Sabercat debut when he came on for the final 10 minutes. Andrew Ice and Nathan Akers both registered shots on goal for MBU.
Next week, the Sabercats will conclude a 4-game home stand when they host Illinois Tech Tuesday at 4 p.m. in an all-AD3I contest. Catch all the details at mbusabercats.com/composite.
