WATERTOWN, Wis. -- It took just one goal to decide it, as Great Lakes scored in the second half to take the wind out of the Sabercats' weekend.

With the loss, the Sabercats fall to 4-8-0 on the season and 4-4-0 in NCCAA DII play, Great Lakes picks up their third win in NCCAA play to move to 7-2-1 on the season.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 0-1 Great Lakes Christian
  • Venue: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Location: Watertown, Wis.
  • Attendance: 102
  • Record: MBU (4-8-0), GLCC (7-2-1)

STORY

Maranatha created chances in the first half, as they tried to take advantage of a strong tailwind to catch Great Lakes off the mark. Aaron Jones put a shot on target as the Sabercats persisted, but neither team created a clear-cut chance.

The decider came about 10 minutes after halftime, when Leonce Ndayisaba thumped home a header from a Reddeck McMeeken corner kick. Thanks to that emphatic nod, Great Lakes would hold the momentum and take the win after 90 minutes of hard-fought play.

But it didn't come without a scare, at the other end of the field, Joshua Wright and Isaac Schmidt both had headers saved or cleared off the line from point-blank range, making it a nail-biting finish. At the end of the day, the Sabercats took a disappointing loss at the end of a hard week, marking a 1-2 record in the three-home-game stretch.
