BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. -- Andrews University got on the board early and held the Sabercats off at the end today, as Maranatha fell 1-2 despite a late push in Michigan.

Michael Doese scored the only Sabercats' goal, as Andrews evened the season series in a loss that will leave a sting for the Sabercats.

STORY

Early chances from Clayton Miller and Mike Davis gave the Sabercats a little bit of a jolt, but the hosts' intense defending eventually gave them momentum. The momentum turned into a goal, as Jonathan Limbu capitalized on a Sabercats miscue in the back to put the Cardinals up by one.

The score would stand going into halftime, as neither team could grapple the momentum. A one-goal game was a fitting scoreline. 

Andrews came out with a similar intensity and hard play, turning the one-goal lead into a two-goal cushion early on in the second half. A misplayed ball from an Andrews forward was instantly transformed into the perfect pass, as Caleb Izumi punched a shot home to make it 2-0 for the Cardinals.

It was the Sabercats' turn to create something out of nothing, and Chase Mixell sparked the creativity by finding space at the top of the Andrews penalty area before firing a hard and low shot towards the corner. After the shot was saved by the Andrews goalkeeper, Doese pounced on the loose ball and tapped it into the corner to pull one back and put the Sabercats in position to tie it up.

The Sabercats created a couple of late chances, but they were ultimately unable to find the equalizer, allowing Andrews to seal the deal with the 2-1 win to even the series on the season.
