Knights Sweep the Series
LEAD
NEW ULM, Minn. -- The Sabercats continue to tighten their defense, but it wasn't enough today in a doubleheader loss to Martin Luther College.
The Knights won in six innings before taking a commanding 17-1 win to conclude the series. The Sabercats will now look to the weekend's trip to Finlandia University for another four-game series.

STORY
The Sabercats put on one of their best defensive displays of the year when they held the Knights to just three runs through four and a half innings. The Sabercats tried to chip away at the scoring with hits here and there, but they couldn't bring in anyone off of Lexi Fischer, who went all six innings to pick up her second win of the season.
Martin Luther recorded six doubles, and Emma Berg (4 RBIs) and Jordyn Heckendorf (3-4, R) set the example at the plate for the hosts in game one.

Game two was all about early heat from the hosts, as they took advantage of singles and a few wild pitches to score all 17 runs in the first three innings. Maranatha notched their only run of the day in the first, when Dani Chaney's RBI single brought home Grace Massey. Chaney would go 2-2 in the game as the Sabercats were held to just three hits.
SOUND BITE
"The first game we played pretty well, we just couldn't get the runs in," said Coach Rob Thompson after the game. "We hit the ball well but their center fielder made some really good catches going into the gaps and took away a line drive driving forward. Dani [Chaney] and Eryn [Bates] all hit the ball really well, but we just couldn't string the hits together when we needed to."
