LEAD
WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The North Central University Rams brought the bats today, winning both games of a wind-swept home-opener over the Sabercats.
A late Rams rally ended the first game after six innings, and North Central took home a convincing 17-4 win in a five-inning game two.

STORY
The first inning previewed the action that was to follow, as the Sabercats answered North Central's four-run opening statement with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Krysten Lawver drove in a run with a nice single to right and Eryn Bates notched an RBI with a single to center. Game on.

But North Central halted the Sabercats' scoring there. Grace Massey's single to right drove in a run in the bottom of the second, but a steady clipping away from North Central made it a 10-3 game after five innings. Then a five-run barrage in the top of the sixth for North Central eventually shortened the game to just six frames. In the opener, eight Sabercats registered a hit - but they left a pesky 13 runners stranded. Massey, Dani Chaney, and Laura Brown all recorded two hits on the day.

The second game was more about North Central, as it ended after just five innings, but the deficit didn't stop the Sabercats from making some impressive plays on both sides of the ball. Massey turned a double play when she hauled in a fly ball in left field and made a quick throw to second to put out a runner. And on the offensive side, the Sabercats were limited to just five hits, but Eryn Bates smashed her first career triple with the bases loaded to bring in three runs.
All in all, the losses were on the scoreboard, but it was a day of highlights in the Sabercats' home opener.
