Six Sabercats Highlight NCCAA All-Region Teams

WATERTOWN, Wis. --- At the 2017 NCCAA North Regional Basketball Tournament banquet this morning, the North Region announced that six players from Maranatha Baptist University have been selected to the all-region teams for the 2016-17 season. Micah Shepard was named to the first team for the men, while Hanna Glaze earned first-team honors on the women's side.

Joining those four were Clayton Morrison and Zach Terpstra, who earned Honorable Mention honors on the men's side.

Glaze was joined on the women's teams by Alexis Johnson and Kelsey Johnson, who garnered second-team status.

Shepard posted a team-high 26 points and 10 rebounds in last night's win over Oak Hills Christian, and has averaged 16.6 points per game this season while shooting 47.8 percent from the field - good enough for a top 10 spot in the North Region in both of those categories.

Clayton Morrison and Zach Terpstra were also named as an Honorable Mention selection to the All-Region scheme. Terpstra posted 9.8 points per game, 115 boards, and 15 blocks on the season while Morrison has contributed 167 points, 119 rebounds, and 80 assists. Both players passed the 500 career points mark during the season.

On the women's side, Glaze was a mainstay for the Sabercats offense, as she has led the team with 13.5 points and five rebounds per game this season while shooting 41.2 percent from the field. Glaze posted a career-high 27 points against Illinois Tech on Jan. 31, and has been held to less than 10 points on just six occasions this season. Glaze also leads the region with 76 steals on the year.

Alexis Johnson has recorded an average of 12.7 points per game this season while shooting 41.9 percent from the field. Johnson ranks seventh and fourth in those categories, respectively, in the NCCAA North Region. Johnson reached her high of 24 points in her first game back on the basketball team, when the Sabercats traveled to Marian University in November.

Kelsey Johnson recorded her first career double-double at Silver Lake on Jan. 24 when she posted 14 points and 11 boards. Johnson then followed that up with a 20 point-11 rebound performance at home to NAIA DII powerhouse Ind.-Northwest on Feb. 7. Johnson averages 8.0 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game this year.

The Sabercats Women's Basketball Team will play their tournament semifinal tonight at 5:00 p.m. against Moody Bible Institute while the Men's Team faces the #1-seeded Trinity Bible College Lions at 7:00 p.m.
