Burdett, Wagner Wrap up MBU Careers with Weekly Awards

WATERTOWN, Wis. --- The senior duo of Wes Wagner (New Waverly, Texas) and Micah Burdett (Newnan, Ga.) were tabbed with student-athlete of the week honors for the week of April 24, as was announced this morning by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

Wagner was named AD3I student-athlete of the week while Burdett garnered defensive player of the week honors in the NCCAA (uni-divisional).

Wagner led the Sabercats to a 5-2 week to conclude their season, as a disappointing year was finished in style with five wins in the last six games. Wagner batted .333 with eight hits, five doubles, 13 RBIs and six runs scored as the Sabercats swept Lincoln Christian, and posted three wins in a four-game series with Finlandia University. Wagner was impressive with the bat all season, as the senior set the Maranatha Baseball program record for career RBIs (56), tied the program record for single-season doubles (11), and sits at second all-time in career doubles (18).*

Burdett had a storybook ending to his four-year career in the Blue & Gold, as the senior fought an injury to post his first career shutout against Finlandia on April 29. Burdett was in command the entire way and allowed just two hits while going the distance in the game. The Georgian fanned six Lion batters while walking just one in the process. Behind Burdett's in-command performance, the Sabercats posted 13 runs to end their season in style with a 13-0 win.
