RIPON, Wis. -- The Sabercats withstood a first-half offensive onslaught from Ripon and carried that defense through to 2OT, ultimately drawing with Ripon at 0-0.

Despite the lack of offense for either side, Laura Brown made 11 saves and the Sabercat defense held strong.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 0-0 Ripon
  • Venue: Prairie Field
  • Location: Ripon, Wis.
  • Attendance: 51
  • Record: MBU (0-1-1), RC (0-5-1)

STORY

The Sabercats faced a tough opponent in Ripon, who started firing shots right away. The Red Hawks controlled possession for much of the first half, ripping shot after shot and pressuring the defense. But freshman goalkeeper Laura Brown was up for the challenge, making 11 saves on the day. Four of those saves came within the first 30 minutes, which helped keep Ripon off the board amid their stream of shots. Brown would make 3 more saves by the end of the first half.

When the second half began, the Sabercats seemed reenergized as they gained a bit more control of the ball throughout the half. However, they simply could not break through the Ripon defense, and the game went to overtime.

The first overtime flew by, and only one player took a shot the entire period, as Faith Dargy was robbed of the game-winner by the Ripon keeper. Second overtime provided a bit more action as both keepers made saves and several more shots were taken, but none would find their home in the back of the net. After a grueling 110 minutes, the two teams would call the game at a scoreless draw.
