WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Sabercats earned their second straight win with a 1-0 defeat of Lincoln Christian today.

Gabrielle Torres scored the lone goal, her first of the year, and the defense held the 1-0 lead for nearly 75 minutes in the win.

STORY

Coming off their win in Milwaukee on Tuesday, the Sabercats hosted the struggling Lincoln Christian today and continued their streak. Right from the kickoff, they controlled possession and pressured the Red Lions time and time again. But the Lions keeper held strong and made several saves while the defense forced the Sabercats to make a few turnovers.

About 15 minutes in, the Sabercats got a free kick outside the Lions' box. Mallory Willette took a shot off the kick, but the Lincoln keeper blocked the shot upward. The ball bounced toward the end line but Sarah Moore saved the ball from going out and made a pass into the middle in front of the goal, where Gabrielle Torres was waiting and deposited the ball into the left side of the net past the diving keeper, giving Maranatha the 1-0 lead.

As the match progressed, the Red Lions started to gain some chances. Strong defense from Angel Steuerwald, Olivia Vander Pluym, and Taylor Warner helped prevent the ball from reaching keeper Laura Brown often, while Esther Bishop made a handful of saves with her body and cleared the ball to reset the offense. Maranatha's win was a huge confidence booster as they creep ever closer to the North Region tournament.
