PLYMOUTH, Minn. --- The Sabercats repeated their results from the first day of the NCU Tournament by posting a 9-3 win over North Central University before being defeated by Finlandia (10-13) and Martin Luther (6-7).

Harmony Bailey went 8-12 on the day and scored six runs while posting five RBI's. Allison Epperly also contribued seven hits while posting a pari of runs and RBI's. Brooke Campbell pitched 18 total innings and was responsible for the day-opening win.

Against North Central, the Sabercats were consistent, as they scored in each of their first six innings. Bailey brought in Katelyn Hockema to get things started in the first inning, and the Sabercats rode the momentum of another strong showing in the circle from Brooke Campbell.

A highlight moment came when freshman Hannah May rattled off an inside the park home run in the top of the third. May's home run was followed by an RBI single from Epperly, who brought in Janae Jorgensen to cap off a two-run inning for MBU.

From then on, the Sabercats closed the game out through smart baserunning, timely hits, and the awareness to capitalize on some defensive miscues from the Rams. Campbell stayed in the circle for all seven innings, finishing strong by shutting out the Rams in each of the last four innings. (9-3)

The second game was an offensive battle, as the Sabercats and the Finlandia University Lions combined for 23 runs. Finlandia started off by posting a half-dozen runs in each of the first two innings, but the Sabercats responded well and made the game interesting. Brooke Campbell came back into the circle and allowed just one run in the last four innings, and the Sabercats posted big at-bats in the third and the sixth.

Harmoney Bailey tallied four RBI's in the game, and had an RBI double to help spark a four-run third inning for MBU. Other noteworthy moments came from May and from Janae Jorgensen, who both notched RBI ground-rule doubles.

The Sabercats pushed three runs across in the sixth and put a couple of runners on base in the seventh, but their rally was ultimately cut short and Finlandia took home the win to move to 11-9 on the year. (10-13)

The Sabercats' third chance at Martin Luther nearly ended with a comeback win, but MBU's rally would again come up short in the final inning. After pushing three runs across in the first inning helped by a two-RBI single from Jorgensen, the Sabercats posted one more run in the fourth to try to overcome a half-dozen runs that Martin Luther recorded through the first three innings.

Down by three in the final inning, MBU tried to rally with a couple of runs batted in from May and Jorgensen, but for the second time today, the Sabercats were denied the win in the final inning. (6-7)

"We had good games again today," said head coach Rob Thompson. "Brooke Campbell did a fabulous job in the circle - she pitched 18 innings for us and was controlled and confident. Harmony [Bailey], Hannah [May], Tina [Kolinski] and Alli [Epperly] had great days at the plate as well. I'm proud of our girls and excited to see what lies ahead for the rest of the season. We gave ourselves the chances to win the last two games, so all in all, we are very pleased."

The Sabercats will begin home play against Alverno College Tuesday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m.
