Tale of Two Games: Sabercats Split with Eagles

WATERTOWN, Wis. --- The Sabercats did just enough to win a close game one before falling in the second game to split the doubleheader with Edgewood College this afternoon. This was the first time since 2012 that MBU has posted a win over the Eagles.

With the results of today, the Sabercats improve to 7-19. Brooke Campbell took the win in game one while Harmony Bailey was handed the loss in the second game.

Tina Kolinski extended her hitting streak to past 10 games, as the three-year player got on base in both games today to extend her streak to 11 games.

In game one, the Sabercats got off to a fast start, as they posted eight runs in the first three innings. In the first frame, Tina Kolinski made the most of her infield single by stealing second and third, and all three of the Sabercats' first batters eventually scored. Hannah May logged an RBI single with a worm-burner up the middle.

Hockema added her second RBI in as many at-bats with a frozen rope triple to right field which plated Maisy Alldredge in the second inning. RBI singles from Epperly and Kolinski then drove in two of the four runs which came in the third inning - the highest-scoring inning for MBU on the day. (8-0)

Edgewood rallied to post a run in the fourth and seven runs in the sixth, but MBU collected themselves and Bailey rapped a single into left to bring home Kolinski and Hockema. Bailey scored on a wild pitch just a few pitches later, and MBU had a three-run lead and room to breathe once again. In the top of the seventh, Brooke Campbell stayed cool with runners on the corners and retired the side for the final time needed to secure the win for MBU. (11-8)

Hockema, Bailey, and Epperly each had two RBIs while Kolinski and Bailey each had multiple base hits.

In game two, there was a one-run tradeoff in the opening inning. May brought in Kolinski with an RBI single, but that would be all the scoring that MBU would have until the fifth inning, when Harmony Bailey drove in two runs with a single up the middle.

Edgewood steadily pushed runs across in the second game of the night, as they utilized 12 hits to take home a hard-hitting, 12-3 win to split the series.

The Sabercats' next test will be tomorrow morning at 11 a.m., as they host Finlandia University in a triple header. This will be the Sabercats' final home games of the year.
