Sabercats Show Promise in Losses to Mount Mary

MILWAUKEE --- Despite dropping two games in Milwaukee (7-15, 1-15), the Sabercats showed signs of progress, as they posted eight runs on the day.

With the losses, the Sabercats are now 2-12 on the season while Mount Mary improves to 6-12.

Game one was a slugfest, as the teams combined to 22 runs through six innings. MBU started off with three quick runs in the first thanks to a perfectly-timed double from Allison Epperly that brought in three runs. (3-0)

Mount Mary chipped away at the scoreboard throughout the game, as they scored at least on run in each of the six innings. The MMU bats were alive and well, as the hosts rattled off 17 hits throughout the game to bolster their tally on the scoreboard.

Tina Kolinski started the four-run showing in the fifth inning. For the second time in the game, Kolinski singled as the leadoff batter and was soon brought home with well-placed hitting from MBU. This time it was a single from Katelyn Hockema that began a fifth-inning rally. Hockema's single was followed with a two-RBI double from the bat of Harmony Bailey, who was brought home with back-to-back singles from Epperly and Brooke Campbell. (7-11)

The game reached the sixth inning, but after a four-run Blue Angel at-bat, the game was shortened to sux innings per the run rule. (7-15)

Kolinski led MBU with three hits, and Epperly and Campbell registered two hits apiece. Epperly's three RBIs led MBU, and two RBIs from Bailey added to the contribution list.

Game two held a different story in terms of scoreline, but the Blue Angels were characteristically explosive in terms of offense. Once again, Mount Mary scored in every inning, and they posted 10 runs in their final two at-bats to once again shorten the game per the run rule. MBU was held to just four hits in the game and were charged with six errors. (1-15)

The Sabercats now look forward to next week and their rescheduled doubleheader at the Rockford University Regents. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13.

Following that away doubleheader, the Sabercats will open a 13-game home stand with a 5:00 p.m. clash with North Central University on Friday.
