Hard-Hitting Blue Angels Sweep Sabercats

WATERTOWN, Wis. --- The Sabercats created chances in a tight game one, but were out-gunned in game two in a doubleheader against Mount Mary University tonight, falling 5-7 and 1-14 under the lights at Brandt-Quirk Park in an all-AD3I contest.

The Blue Angels' Sidnee Turnage recorded two home runs in game one to propel MMU to the sweep. With the losses, the Sabercats fall to 6-18 while the Blue Angels improve to 8-16.

In game one, the Sabercats took the lead in the bottom of the third through Tina Kolinski's alacritous base-running. The lead would be short-lived, as Turnage's first shot of the game cleared the center field fence to make it a tie ballgame through three and a half innings. (1-1)

Katelyn Hockema quickly restored the lead with an RBI single in the fourth, but Mount Mary came back with five runs over the next three innings to give MBU a mountain to climb. One of those runs came off the bat of Turnage, who put her second connection into the pine trees in center. (2-7)

The Sabercats began to mount a comeback in the final inning, as alert baserunning from Hockema and Harmony Bailey combined with a Brooke Campbell RBI single to give MBU three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Blue Angels did on defense enough to secure the first win. (5-7)

Game two was a different story, as Mount Mary scored early and often with a combination of patience at the plate and timely base hits. MMU posted multiple runs in each of their five at-bats, and MBU's only answer came in their final at-bat when Tina Kolinski drove in a determined Katie Bender to give MBU a consolation run in their final inning. (1-14)

The Sabercats' next test will be tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against the Eagles of Edgewood College. Catch live stats for game one (click here) and game two (click here).
