Sabercats, Bailey Light it Up for Parents' Day Series Sweep

WATERTOWN, Wis. --- The Sabercats were unstoppable again today, as they cruised past the North Central University Rams, 11-3 and 13-5 in a windy Parents' Day event at Brandt-Quirk Park. With the two wins, the Sabercats take home all four wins from the weekend against NCU and move to 6-12 on the season.

Brooke Campbell and Harmony Bailey took the wins again today as the Sabercats move to 6-2 in NCCAA play for the 2017 season. Hannah May homered twice in game two (once inside the park) as she has now recorded four home runs this season - tied for third all-time in Maranatha Softball history.*

In game one, the two teams combined for nine runs in a high-scoring opening inning. After NCU registered two runs off of Campbell, the Sabercats answered with seven of their own. The Yooper connection was strong once again, as a Harmony Bailey triple brought in Hannah May. Bailey then came home on a wild pitch, which added a third run for MBU and more trouble for the visitors. Alldredge then got in on the triple act and smacked her first of three triples on the day down the right field line, bringing home Katie Bender to add the sixth run for MBU. All in all, the Sabercats scored their seven runs on five hits and three NCU errors. (7-2)

Solid execution was the story of the Sabercats' one-run third inning. Alldredge's single was followed by a sharp bunt from Tina Kolinski, then a sacrifice hit from Katelyn Hockema brought Alldredge home from third base. (8-2)

After Campbell drove in a run in the fourth, the Sabercats stepped up in the bottom of the fifth needing just two runs to win the game per the eight-run rule. It came about (once again) courtesy of the U.P., as Hannah May was beaned with the bases loaded to bring home Alldredge, then Harmony Bailey ended the game with what would have been an extra-base hit to deep center. Tina Kolinski crossed the plate from third base, and the game was ended there with an eight-run win going down on record. (11-3)

In game two, the Sabercats exploded in the bottom of the second, as they scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning. Alldredge did the outstanding by recording two triples in the same inning to bring home three runs total. Doubles from Katie Bender and Campbell also drove in runs, and another highlight moment jumped off the bat of Hannah May, who hit a home run to center field - her third in Blue & Gold. (10-2)

Kelly Dyck earned her first RBI of her career with a sacrifice hit to the pitcher in the third inning. That was the only run that MBU scored in their at-bat. (11-2)

When NCU prolonged the ballgame with a three-run fifth inning, the Sabercats promptly ended the outing when Harmony Bailey delivered her second game-ending hit of the day with a single down the third-base line. (13-5)

On the series, Bailey proved to be an outstanding all-around player, as she recorded the following stats: 9-15, 8 R, 5 RBI, HR, and 17 K in 12.0 innings pitched. Bailey struck out five batters looking today, which is a Maranatha program record. Bailey's nine-strikeout showing is also tied for second for the most strikeouts thrown by an MBU pitcher in a single game.*

"Both Brooke [Campbell] and Harmony [Bailey] did a great job keeping the game under control in the circle today," said head coach Rob Thompson after the game. "That allowed our defense to play well behind us. Hannah [May], Harmony [Bailey], and Maisy [Alldredge] did a tremendous job for us at the plate, and we were very pleased with how we bounced back after making mistakes. We were happy to get the results again today, and we were so thankful to have so many of our parents and family members there today - it was a great display of support for their daughters and for the program."

The Sabercats will return to their home diamond Monday to face the Blackburn College Beavers in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.

Live Stats will be unavailable for the game, but you can catch results at mbusabercats.com.
