Rookie Duo Tabbed with NCCAA Regional Honors

WATERTOWN, Wis. (mbusabercats.com) -- The rookie powerhouse of Harmony Bailey (Rudyard, Mich.) and Hannah May (Rudyard, Mich.) earned NCCAA All-Region honors for their freshman showings, as was announced this afternoon by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). The duo out of Maplewood Baptist joined 15 players from the North Region, which is comprised of seven institutions in a uni-divisional format.

The Yooper twosome certainly made their mark in their first year in the Blue & Gold. The pair combined for a .400 average with 52 runs, 72 hits, 15 doubles, seven triples, seven home runs, and 59 runs batted in. One player or the other led the Sabercats in virtually every offensive category.

May batted .405 and tallied 34 hits, a half-dozen doubles, three triples, and five home runs while batting in 26 runs on the year. May's slugging percentage was a noteworthy .726, and the rookie from Rudyard scored 24 runs on the season. May's five-home run showing was the second-best mark in a season in Maranatha Softball program history.*

Bailey showed her versatility during her rookie season, as she proved to be a threat both in the batter's box and in the circle. Bailey registered a .396 average on the year while contributing 33 RBIs with a .635 slugging percentage and a .420 on-base percentage. Bailey led the team with 28 runs, 38 hits, nine doubles, and four triples, and her 33-RBI tally was a Maranatha single-season record.

Bailey was also a threat with her pitching, as the first-year player logged 48 strikeouts (good enough for fifth-best in a season) and earned two wins on the year. Bailey's wins came on Parents' Day weekend against North Central University (Minn.), where she struck out 18 batters in a two-game stretch.

As a mid-season exclamation point, the Rudyard rookie duo recorded back-to-back home runs against North Central, which was the first time in program history that the feat had been achieved. (Click here to view a Facebook video of the home runs)

"I was very pleased with both Harmony and Hannah's effort, experience, and results," said head coach Rob Thompson. "As freshmen, they impacted our team tremendously on and off the field. We anticipate and look to build on their contributions for 2018. As a demonstration of her impact on the team, Harmony has been named as a co-captain for the 2018 season."
