WATERTOWN, Wis. --- The Sabercats were bested by scores of 2-10 and 8-11 by the Blackburn College Beavers on a wind-swept afternoon at Brandt-Quirk Park. With the losses, the Sabercats fall to 6-14 on the year while the Beavers improve to 7-15.
Brooke Campbell and Harmony Bailey took the losses for MBU. Bailey hit another home run (her second of the year), Hannah May recorded a triple, and Tina Kolinski drove in three runs in game two.
In game one, the Beavers steadily chipped away and eventually won a run-rule shortened game 10-8. Blackburn's biggest inning came in the fourth when they recorded four runs off of four hits. The Beavers registered two RBI doubles as a team to increase their 3-0 lead to seven. (0-7)
MBU answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, as Hannah May's RBI single and Allison Epperly's sacrifice hit brought in the two runs for MBU. (2-7)
That two-run offer was as good as the hosts could manage, however. Blackburn responded with three runs over the next two innings to take a 10-2 win over MBU. (10-2)
Game two yielded more offensive momentum for Maranatha, as Harmony Bailey got things started with a solo homer in the bottom of the second to make it 4-1 (in favor of Blackburn). Another RBI single for Hannah May in the next inning brought in the second run of the day for MBU, and Tina Kolinski took full advantage of a bases-loaded situation in the fourth by whacking a three-RBI double to center field. (5-8)
MBU would post their final runs of the day in the next inning, as they took advantage of Blackburn errors to make it a one-run game. Heads-up baserunning from May, Epperly, and Bailey allowed them to score on two consecutive botched plays from the Beavers. (8-9)
The momentum would stop there, however, as the Beavers posted two more runs in the sixth and held MBU scoreless through their final two at-bats. (8-11)
The Sabercats will continue their 13-game home stand on Thursday, when they host the Mount Mary University Blue Angels at 5:00 p.m. for an all-AD3I matchup. Catch live stats at mbusabercats.com.
