MILWAUKEE -- In a game that was never in question, the Sabercats doubled up Mount Mary for an eighth consecutive win.

Maranatha's 62-31 win was powered by a double-double from Callie Morrison and Kelsey Johnson's seventh double-double of the season.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 62-31 Mount Mary
  • Venue: Bloechl Center, Mount Mary University
  • Location: Milwaukee
  • Attendance: 75
  • Records: MBU (9-1), Mount Mary (4-13)

STORY

The Sabercats left Mount Mary in the dust in the first quarter, as they grabbed seven offensive rebounds to get 21 looks in the first 10 minutes alone. Morrison and Trisha Wright both tallied six points as Maranatha left the first quarter with a 19-6 lead.

Kiersten Johnson took over from there, as the freshman registered five points from off the bench in the second quarter. Johnson was joined with bench contributions from Katelyn Morrison and Regina Anderson, as the Sabercats showcased their balanced attack inside the Bloechl Center. MBU held their hosts to shooting less than 20 percent in the second, and going into the locker room, the Sabercats were calling the shots, leading 33-15.

Coming out of the locker room, a combined nine points from Callie and Kelsey tightened the Sabercats' grip on the game, as they once again limited the Blue Angels to less than 10 points, which amounted to just one bucket from open play. Maranatha was outplaying Mount Mary in every respect, and the eighth straight win was inevitable.

The win came soon enough, as Maranatha had 11 different people contribute to the win in the fourth quarter alone. Callie rounded off her double-double, which included a career-high 14 rebounds, and Maranatha had a lot to celebrate, picking up their seventh win on the road and their eighth overall.
