MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The Sabercats may have scored with their only two shots of the game, but it wasn't enough to offset a 10-goal barrage from Monmouth College today, as Maranatha fell 10-2 to the Fighting Scots to open the season.

Amelia Schroeder and Chelsea Graham did the scoring for the Blue and Gold, who will look to their rivals, Faith Baptist Bible College, tomorrow for their first win of 2023.

STORY

Jae Mitchell scored right away for the Fighting Scots, but Schroeder tied it up in the 17th minute, notching the first goal of her college career with her very first shot. Schroeder collected the ball around midfield and fought her way through the entire Monmouth back line before chipping it in over the goalkeeper for a sensational starting goal.

Monmouth poured on the pressure, however, as that goal from Schroeder ultimately seemed to poke the bear. Monmouth netted five more in the first half, scoring with just 11 seconds left in the opening act.

When halftime hit, it was 6-1 in favor of the hosts, and they didn't look like slowing down.

The Fighting Scots picked up right where they left off in the second half, however, scoring just 37 seconds into it. And when the hosts put two more in the back of the net, it was all one-way traffic. Graham's goal was a parting shot, as she notched the second goal of her college career with a low shot to the left corner from a Mallory Willette corner kick.

Monmouth had the final say, however, as they scored with three minutes left to put the finishing touches on their second win of the series over MBU.
