APPLETON, Wis. -- The Sabercats had a solid first day of matches at the Lawrence Tournament. They finished day one with a record of 2-0, giving them a 3-2 record on the year.

STORY

MOUNT MARY- The Blue Angles jumped out with an early lead of 4-1 in the first set. Although the Sabercats were able to keep the game close, they were unable to find that extra push to put them over the top. They fell in the first match 19-25. Mount Mary's Ecker and Powers continued pushing points for their team, ending the match with 22 kills each. But the Sabercats would not go down without a fight. Mattie Bumpus completely went off, smashing down 28 kills in the match (career high) and helping lead her team to a 3-2 victory.

LAWRENCE- Maranatha did not let the multiple-hour break between games phase them. They went to work against the Vikings, dropping 3 wins before Lawrence could catch their breath. (25-18, 25-15, 25-18) 

Along with Bumpus and her 31 kills on the night, Delaney Thompson and Caitrin Kemlo both had a solid night. Thompson finished the day with 18 kills & 21 digs and Kemlo had 17 kills.

Emily Johnson continued to impress as well, tying her career-high 50 assists in the match against Mount Mary, and adding another 35 assists to her total in the match against Lawrence.

The Sabercats will look to continue their success tomorrow when they take on Rockford and Northland on day two of the tournament.
