Put to the Sword

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Tonight, the red-hot Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors showed why they only have one loss this season.

After 40 minutes at MBU, the Warriors posted 71 points to move to 16-1 on the season. Kelsey Johnson recorded a double-double for MBU while Callie Morrison almost matched her career-high.

  • Result: Maranatha 42-71 Wisconsin Lutheran
  • Venue: MBU Gymnasium
  • Location: Watertown, Wis.
  • Attendance: 123
  • Records: MBU (5-6), WLC (16-1)

The Sabercats stayed close with the Warriors in the first quarter, which turned into a defensive battle. The Sabercats had a difficult time solving WLC's man-to-man defense, and the Warriors edged out to a 12-7 lead by the end of the opening act.

The Warriors built on their lead in the second quarter, scoring almost twice as much as they did in the first. Jen Dowden - who leads the Warriors with 16 points per game - upped her count to 12 by halftime, and the Warriors had a 35-18 lead going into the locker room.

As far as the Warriors were concerned, the game got better from there. WLC increased their lead to 63-29 at the end of the third quarter, and although MBU was the better team in the fourth, the Warriors were too far in front. By the end of the night, Kelsey Johnson chalked up her fourth double-double of the season (10 points, 13 rebounds), and Callie Morrison came close to matching her career-high, finishing with 18 points on the night.
