VERONA, Wis. --- The Sabercats were handed another tight loss and a series sweep by the Eagles of Edgewood College, falling by scored of 5-6 and 2-9 in Verona, Wisconsin.

Clint Matheis took the loss in game one . With today's results, the Sabercats fall to 1-18, which includes 12 losses by four runs or less - games that could have been tied with one swing of the bat.

As has been their habit in recent games, the Sabercats put themselves on the board in the first inning of the doubleheader. Caleb Courtney (who went 3-4 in game one) led off with a single and later scored to put MBU in front. (1-0)

The Eagles answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, and chalked up another in the bottom of the third to take the lead. (1-2)

The fourth inning brought a tradeoff in runs, as Micah Burdett got on base with a single up the middle and was later brought home by Adam Courtney, who logged one of his two RBIs on the game. The Eagles quickly restored their lead, however, and held the one-run advantage until the top of the sixth. (2-3)

In that inning, Elijah May got things started with a single, then Adam Courtney brought May home with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3. Matheis then retired three of four Eagle batters to send the game into the seventh inning in a deadlock.

The Sabercats executed when it mattered, as Dennis Reinhardt and Caleb Prigge found themselves in scoring position after recording base hits. After Danny Appino struck out the next two MBU batters, Caleb Courtney delivered a clutch single that brought Reinhardt and Prigge home. MBU had a two-run going into the bottom-half of the seventh. (5-3)

Unfortunately for MBU, the Eagles showed resolve to pull the game back around in their favor. Edgewood's Tim Nunn delivered an RBI double with the bases loaded that drove in two runs, and after the Sabercats gave Nick Cheaney a free pass to first, Casey Willis stepped up with a walkoff RBI single to give Edgewood the one-run win in game one. (5-6)

The Sabercats registered a season-high 15 hits in game one. Reinhardt, Prigge, Adam and Caleb Courtney, and Jordan Garrison all had multiple-base hit games. 

Edgewood hit the ground running in game two, as they registered five runs of Jordan Garrison in the opening two innings. Caleb Prigge put MBU on the board with an RBI single in the third inning, but the Eagles had the momentum still, and they responded with another run to go up by five. (1-6)

Elijah May doubled to open the hitting in the fourth inning, but was thrown out at the plate later in the inning. Reinhardt soon crossed the plate after a Caleb Huthmaker single to give MBU another run. (2-6)

Edgewood remained unfazed, and quickly posted three more runs to put the game out of reach. The Eagle pitching staff held the Sabercats to just the two runs on the game to effectively close out the series sweep.

With the losses, the Sabercats are now 1-18 on the year while the Eagles improve to 14-8.
