Sabercats Fall to Stars at Boomers Stadium

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. --- The Sabercats were haunted by a familiar, tight-loss result in game one of a doubleheader tonight, as they were defeated 3-5 and 1-15 by the Dominican University Stars. With the loss, the Sabercats fall to 2-23 while the Stars improve to 10-17.

Jordan Garrison took the loss in game one after giving up just one earned run, and Micah Burdett took the loss in game two.

In game one, MBU repeated their recent trend of putting themselves in the board in the first inning. A sacrifice fly from Adam Courtney drove in his brother Caleb Courtney, who had reached first the hard way and then advanced to third with the aid of Dominican miscues. (1-0)

Dominican then utilized three base hits in the second inning to post three runs and take the lead. A defensive battle ensued until the sixth, when the Stars strung together three base hits to tally two more runs. (1-5)

MBU seemed to be mounting a charge, as they packed the bases with no one out. Elijah May executed a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Micah Burdett, and Wes Wagner brought home Caleb Courtney with a grounder to short. The Stars' Daniel Supple stopped the bleeding there, though, and sealed a nerve-wracking win for the hosts. (3-5)

Adam Courtney, May, and Garrison each had two base hits in the first game.

The Stars scored six runs through the first three innings of game two while keeping the Sabercats scoreless until the fifth inning, when Wagner drove in his second run of the day with a base hit to right which brought home Dennis Reinhardt. (1-6)

The Stars replied with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning (one was a moon shot from Roque Bruno), then they sealed the deal with a seven-run showing in the bottom of the sixth. The Stars posted their seven runs off of four hits and three MBU errors to cap off a sweep of the doubleheader. (1-15)

The Sabercats' next test will be Saturday at Lincoln Christian University. The scheduled start time of the doubleheader is 1:00 p.m. in Lincoln, Ill.
