Three Runs from Falcons Top Sabercats in Defensive Clash
MEQUON, Wis --- The Sabercats suffered another near defeat this afternoon, as they fell 3-0 to the Falcons of Concordia-Wisconsin (NACC) at lakeside Kapco Park on the CUW campus. With the win, the Falcons improve to 21-8 while the Sabercats fall to 2-26.
Wes Wagner pitched eight noteworthy innings, allowing just two earned runs in the loss, while CUW's Drew Underwager was credited with the win after allowing just one hit through five innings pitched.
Underwager got off to a shaky start, as he gave three Sabercats a free pass to first base, but MBU left the bases loaded in their first trip at bat as a team.
CUW then utilized two extra-base hits in the third and fourth innings, as they pulled ahead 2-0 with an RBI triple from Bryan Thomas and an RBI double from Spencer Garnett.
MBU once again stranded a runner in scoring position when Adam Courtney advanced only as far as second base in the sixth inning, and CUW extended their lead to three runs courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Kyle Hilliard in the eighth. The Falcon bullpen then concluded their combined shutout by retiring the side in the top of the ninth. (3-0)
Caleb Prigge registered two base hits on the day, and Courtney and Micah Shepard were the only other Sabercats to record a hit in the nine-inning contest.
The Sabercats have now concluded their away games for the season, and will conclude the 2017 season with a six-game home stand beginning tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. against the Red Lions of Lincoln Christian University.
