Sabercats Drop Tight Doubleheader to Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE -- The Sabercats were handed two close losses to the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors this afternoon, both games were decided by a 2-5 scoreline in favor of WLC. The two losses were an unwelcome familiar story to what has been a disappointing season of close losses for MBU.

With the losses, the Sabercats fall to 2-21. 14 of those losses have been decided by four runs or less.

In game one, the Warriors put the Sabercats on the back foot early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, then WLC increased their lead to three with another run in the second. (3-0)

MBU answered in the top of the third inning by taking advantage of a Warrior error with runners on base, but the Warriors responded positively when KJ Banse smashed a two-RBI double to fully regain the momentum for WLC. (5-1)

Caleb Courtney knocked an RBI single to right field with the bases jammed in the sixth inning, but WLC's Jake Wiedower brought the Warriors home from that point on, as Wisconsin Lutheran closed out the win. (5-2)

The second game yielded the same scoreline, but MBU found themselves ahead in the top of the fourth when a two-RBI single from Caleb Huthmaker plated Dennis Reinhardt and Wes Wagner. (2-1)

The Warriors quickly answered, however, as they slated their biggest inning of the day with a hard-hitting, three-run at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. After WLC's Kasey Zdroik homered to left field in the fifth, the Warriors held MBU scoreless to repeat the same scoreline from a few hours prior. (2-5)

The Sabercats will travel to Illinois for their next test. MBU will take on the Dominican University Stars at 5:00 p.m. in Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg, Ill. Click here for directions to the stadium.
