Kelsey Johnson Named January's Pizza Hut Student-Athlete of the Month
WATERTOWN, Wis. -- For the month of January, Kelsey Johnson's consistency was a force to be reckoned with.
The sophomore's 17.4 points per game and overall consistency led the Sabercats to a 5-4 month amidst a tight schedule. For her top-notch performances, Johnson has been named as the Pizza Hut Student-Athlete of the Month, as determined by the MBU Athletic Department.
Johnson, a sophomore out of Stephenson, Michigan, recorded double-digit points in every game and reached 20 points 3 different times. The junior's quick hands grabbed 8.4 rebounds per game, 4.3 assists per game, and 2.8 steals per game.
The forward recorded double-doubles in 3 of the Sabercats' wins, and she notched a career-high 22 points while going 5-8 from downtown at IIT on Jan. 6.
In terms of season-long performance, Johnson has been unrivaled. She has accumulated 261 points and has recorded double-digit points in every game except one. She leads the Sabercats in points, rebounding, assists, steals, and field-goal percentage.
On the AD3I scheme, Johnson ranks in the top 5 in the following statistical categories: points/points per game, field goals/field-goal percentage, assists (1st), steals (1st), free throws/percentage, and 3-pt percentage.

After going 1-5 to start the season, the Sabercats have needed Johnson's consistent on-court leadership to help turn the season around. Johnson and the Sabercats will now look to close the regular season out on a high note, as they have 5 more games before beginning NCCAA postseason play at the end of the month.
