Shepard, Bueltel Named NCCAA All-American
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Seniors Micah Shepard and Lexi Bueltel have been named All-Americans by the National Christian College Athletic Association, as was announced last night at the Championship Banquet for the 2018 NCCAA DII National Basketball Championships.
Shepard earned 2nd Team honors while Bueltel garnered a 3rd Team selection. This was the first time that either player had been named to the All-America teams.
Micah Shepard has been named to the All-America 2nd Team after being selected to the North Regional 1st Team for the last 2 seasons. This year's sharp-shooting North Region MVP registered a career-high 38 points in MBU's 105-97 overtime defeat of North Central back in November, and he has recorded double-digits in 17 games this year. In the NCCAA North Regional Tournament a couple of weekends ago, Shepard logged 32 points through the first two games to lead the Sabercats to their first regional title since 2003. Shepard currently leads the team with 14.5 points per game.
Alexis Bueltel wrapped up her 4-year career as a standout leader on and off the court this year for MBU. Bueltel averaged 15.5 points per game while shooting 41.3 percent from the floor. The senior finished her career in the top 10 in Maranatha program history in both points and rebounds, as she logged 1,072 points and 669 boards.
Both players surpassed the 1,000-career-points mark this season, and both players did it on the Sabercats' home floor.
Shepard and the Men's Basketball Team will begin play in the NCCAA DII National Tournament tomorrow morning when they take on Johnson University Tennessee at 9 a.m. Central. Catch the details of that game - including live video information - at mbusabercats.com/composite.
