Muskies' Early Goals Sink Sabercats

PLYMOUTH, Wis. - Two early goals from the Muskies settled the difference in Plymouth, as Lakeland exploited gaps in the Sabercats' back line in the early goings. The Muskies held on to the lead through the 90 minutes and took home the win to move to 2-6 on the year. The Sabercats fall to 1-5 with the loss.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 0-2 Muskies
  • Location: Lakeland University
  • Venue: Muskie Soccer Field
  • Series: since 2010, the Muskies hold the 4-2-1 series advantage

How it Happened

  • 9' - After a Sabercat giveaway in the midfield, the Muskies quickly launched a counter-attack that ended with a one-on-one situation at the top of the Sabercat box. Ayoka Nda finished coolly into the bottom-left-hand corner to give the Muskies the lead (0-1)
  • 20' - Not long after, the Muskies basically recreated their first goal. This time, it was Charles Apostolik who finished off the counter-attack with a neatly-tucked finish into the lower-left-hand corner (0-2)
  • The Sabercats created chances throughout the remainder of the first half. Nathan Akers and John Zockoll both tested the keeper, but the Sabercats' efforts were not enough against the compact Muskie defense.

Next Up

  • The Sabercats will travel to Lansing, Michigan to take on the Lakers of Great Lakes Christian College in a non-regional NCCAA matchup. Kickoff is set for 5 PM (EDT) on the Great Lakes campus.
