NCCAA Clash: #10 Sabercats Dominant in Loss to #4 Archers

WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Sabercats entered the game against the Archers of Moody Bible Institute with a point to prove after losing 3-4 in Chicago last season. The Sabercats looked the more dominant team from start to finish and created twice as many chances as the Archers. Despite controlling the play, however, the Sabercats could not find the back of the net, and eventually fell 1-0 on a windy Thursday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 0-1 Archers
  • Location: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Attendance: 88
  • Sabercats: now 2-7, Archers: now 3-5-1

How it Happened

  • 30' - Just seconds after an Archer goal was disallowed for offside, Daniel Martinez's 25-yard strike swerved around Randal Larson and found the back of the net to put the visitors up 1-0. (0-1)
  • The Sabercats would not give up easily, and created numerous chances throughout the first half. Matt Sheeley and Nathan Akers both had dangerous shots on goal, but the sure hands of Kenny McBride in the Archer net denied the equalizer.
  • Kevin Risma and Wira Wama came closest in the second half, but McBride was on hand again to preserve Moody's lead.
  • The Sabercats seemed to run out of solutions as they ran out of time, and for the second time in as many games, the Archers had taken the win by a solitary goal.

Up Next

  • The Sabercats will stay on their home turf to host the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM.
