GREENVILLE, S.C. --- The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has announced the 2016 Division II fall All-America teams and the corresponding players of the year, and Maranatha Baptist University standouts Alison Renz and Wira Wama have both garnered player of the year honors for the 2016 season.

The newly-named accolade is the third straight year that each player has been named to the All-America first team.

Renz was named as the 2015 NCCAA DII player of the year, and the 2016 award marks the second consecutive year that has been named as the best player in the division. Renz's achievement is just the second time in program history that a player has achieved back-to-back honors (Torey "DeLozier" Rosen - 2011-2012).

Renz finished the season with 494 kills and 132 blocks, both of which were career-highs for the senior.

Renz was also named as the NCCAA North Region player of the year, and the player of the year (and First Team All-Independent selection) for the Association of Division III Independents. Renz also broke into the top five in the NCAA DIII in blocks per set (4th - 1.36) and points per set (5th - 5.57) for the year.

"Ali is a humble player, plays a level-headed game, and is calm and encouraging to her teammates. She can read the opponent's defense and find openings to kill the ball. Ali has become a defensive powerhouse with blocking on the front row and digging balls on the back row. Her stats are impressive, but more than that she is a scholar-athlete and a biology premed major.

"Ali is an incredible athlete and an incredible leader that any coach would love to have as a player. Humility is one of her greatest attributes. Ali’s fun personality and quick wit is uplifting to her teammates."

Wama has now made the All-America team for four total years, three of which have been to the first team - a feat unmatched by any other player in program history. Wama's accolade of player of the year is also the first player of the year award for the program.

Wama cracks the top-ten in two statistical categories, as he recorded 12 goals (for the third time in his career) this season, bringing his career total to 43, which is the second-best career goals tally in program history. Wama also notched five assists this year, which is the eighth-best in program history.

"[Wira] is so much fun to watch. He could single-handedly take over some games, but his mature approach to team play called him to involve his team mates so that the end result is that the team played better as a result.

"I was always impressed with how much joy Wira found in playing soccer. It is impressive how much Wira loves his friends, and loves his Lord. He has truly been a gift to both the soccer team and MBU community at large, and even the city of Watertown."
