CHICAGO - The Sabercats traveled to the Windy City to compete in the North Park Quad, where they lost both matches their two-game showing. After losing a tight four-set match against North Central (IL), the Sabercats were edged by the hosts in four sets. The Basics

  • Results:
    • L 1-3 vs North Central (IL)
    • L 1-3 vs North Park
  • Location: Chicago
  • Venue: North Park University

Match-by-Match

L 1-3 vs North Central: (23-25, 25-23, 21-25, 17-25)

  • Faced up against a tall and powerful Cardinals squad, Renz and Alexis Johnson led the charge at the net for the Sabercats, each recording a baker's dozen in the kills category. The duo set a clean example at the net for MBU, who boasted just 12 errors at the net compared to 25 from the Cardinals. Each of the first three sets saw both teams reach 20 points, but the Cardinals closed out the match in style by winning with the biggest margin of victory on the night: an eight-point cushion - the indicator of a tightly-fought match.

L 1-3 vs North Park: (22-25, 17-25, 25-22, 24-26)

  • In an effort to repeat their hard-earned away win at the Vikings in 2015, the Sabercats came up short. However, there were positives to be had. Most notably was Renz, who picked up her 22nd kill on the night, which landed her at 1,000 in her career. Renz would go on to add 11 more to lead the Sabercats in the category for the match. Despite staying close with the Vikings throughout the match and sending the fourth game into a tie, the Sabercats eventually succumbed to 31 errors, and fell in four sets to mark their second loss of the young 2016 campaign.

Stats on the Night

  • Renz: 33 kills, 18 digs, 10 total blocks
  • Julia Gunst: 48 assists, 11 kills
  • Alexis Johnson: 24 kills, 26 digs
  • Sabercats: 19 errors in game one; 31 errors in game two
