Sabercats Notch AD3I Road Win in Mount Mary Sweep

MILWAUKEE  --  The Sabercats were back to their winning ways on a Tuesday night in Milwaukee, as they picked up a straight-set win over the Blue Angels of Mount Mary University. The Sabercats showed why they rank #2 in the AD3I, as their precise night included just seven errors at the net.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 3-0 Blue Angels
  • Venue: Bloechl Center
  • Attendance: 45
  • Sabercats: now 16-5 (AD3I 2nd), Blue Angels: now 4-15 (AD3I 9th)

How it Happened

  • MBU 25-9 MMU
    • The Sabercats hit the ground running, as they would hold their hosts to less than 10 points in both the first and second sets. After an early tradeoff put the score at 6-4 in MBU's favor, the Sabercats pulled away with an 8-2 run as the Blue Angels struggled with errors. Decisive kills down the stretch from Alison Renz and Nastia Wilson ended the set in style for the Sabercats. Wilson would make the most of her six attacks, as she turned four into kills (1-0)
  • MBU 25-9 MMU
    • The second set yielded the same scoreline as the first. Kelsey Johnson got the Sabercats going with three quick kills and would tally five on the set. Johnson was aided by Madeline Thompson, who finished the night with eight kills (2-0)
  • MBU 25-19 MMU
    • The Blue Angels made a push in the first set, but it would ultimately fall short, as the Sabercats held too much of the momentum going into the set. The Sabercats had a hard time coping with MMU's newly-found pressure, as nine MBU errors contributed the the first 12 points for the hosts. In the end, Renz rounded out her match-leading 11 kills by recording five kills in the third set, including the final three points for the Sabercats (3-0)

Side Notes

  • In the 6-2 Sabercat formation, Julia Gunst (15) and Karley Johnson (10) combined for 25 assists on the night
  • Katie Bender was active on the night, as she picked up 19 digs to lead the Sabercats in the category
  • With the win, the Sabercats have now won 11 of their last 12 matches
