2016 Sabercats Volleyball Schedule Released

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The 2016 schedule for the reigning NCCAA DII National Champions has been released, as the Sabercats Volleyball Team will be eyeing an encore performance in the 2016 season. With a new regional alignment, there will be a different look to the postseason (exact details TBA), and the Sabercats will face rigid NCAA DIII competition during the season to prepare for their bid at back-to-back NCCAA titles.

Home Matches

The Sabercats will play the role of hosts just four times as the schedule stands. The home schedule is highlighted by three games in the span of eight days:

  • 9/27 vs MSOE
    • The Sabercats beat the Raiders in straight sets in Milwaukee during the 2014 season, which was the last time the two teams played. The last time the Raiders made the trip west to Watertown was in October of 2011, when the Sabercats triumphed in straight sets.
  • 9/30 vs Moody Bible Institute
    • In a potential preview of a postseason matchup, the Sabercats will do battle with the Archers on the last evening of September. The last time the Archers came out on top was in September of 2009. Since then, the Sabercats are a perfect 11-0 against their opponents from the Windy City.
  • 10/4 vs Alverno College
    • To cap off the stretch of home games will be a matchup against the Inferno, whom the Sabercats dispatched in straight sets on two occasions last season.  The Sabercats will aim to repeat the story on their home floor this season.
  • 10/26 vs Finlandia University
    • In their final regular-season home game of 2016, the Sabercats will square off against the Lions of Finlandia University. Last year the Sabercats swept the Lions in Watertown and in Michigan, as they ended the two-match season series in six total sets.

Away matches are highlighted by the Spikefest Tournament hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College (9/2-3), which the Sabercats won in 2015. Also on the away schedule is the Finlandia Quad Tournament in Hancock, Michigan in late September. In 2015, the Sabercats came away from the Quad without dropping a set. They will look to emulate that shutout form in the return trip of 2016.

With the new NCCAA regional realignment (Story), the Sabercats will have new opponents to get past in postseason play. That postseason play will begin on November 4 (location: TBA) as the Sabercats will begin their postseason bid for back-to-back national championships.
