Sabercats Sweep Raiders for Fifth Straight

Sabercats Sweep Raiders for Fifth Straight

WATERTOWN, Wis. - In front of the characteristically-flamboyant MBU Crazies, the Sabercats ended a tightly-contested match with authority, as they broke away in the final set to secure a straight-set win over the Raiders of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The win marked the fifth consecutive win for the Sabercats, and their second victory over the Raiders this season.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 3-0 Raiders
  • Venue: MBU Gymnasium
  • Attendance: 391
  • Sabercats: now 10-4, Raiders: now 1-11

How it Happened

  • MBU 25-19 MSOE
    • The visitors were up for the challenge as they came storming out to an early lead. The Sabercats settled into their rhythm, however, and regained some of the momentum to tie the game at 14. Neither team dominated play from that point on, as the match stayed at only a two-point difference as the Sabercats held on to a 21-19 lead. After late kills from Julia Gunst and Alison Renz and an ace from Kelsey Johnson, the Sabercats had taken a back-and-forth set one. (1-0)
  • MBU 28-26 MSOE
    • The second set was a marathon. The set went into a short-lived tie, but the length of each volley was what made it a test for each team. After MSOE had a match point at 26-25, the Sabercats clawed their way back with three straight to negate the visitors' resolve. It was a sister act, as Alexis Johnson and Kelsey Johnson registered decisive kills to end a nail-biting second match. (2-0)
  • MBU 25-13 MSOE
    • The third match seemed to be all one-way traffic, as the Sabercats closed out the match in a convincing manner. Renz recorded four of the first six Sabercat points, and MBU muscled their way out to a 14-5 lead. Errors put the Raiders further behind, and the Sabercats cruised to the victory to mark their fifth straight win and their fourth win in straight sets. (3-0)
