Sabercats Stay Perfect at Home, Win Ninth Straight

WATERTOWN, Wis. - It was business as usual for the Sabercats, who took their ninth win from their last nine matches. This time, the win came against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors, to whom the Sabercats handed a 3-0 defeat in September. With the straight-set win, the Sabercats still have not dropped a set on their home floor.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 3-0 Warriors
  • Venue: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Attendance: 502
  • Sabercats: now 14-4, Warriors: now 9-12

Game-by-Game

  • MBU 25-22 WLC
    • The Sabercats took control right out of the gate, but an 8-1 streak from the Warriors set the tone for a tight first set which included numerous lengthy volleys, scrappy defending and alacritous attacking. The teams stayed close throughout the set, and only at the end did the Sabercats pull away. Kelsey Johnson and Alison Renz contributed key kills down the stretch, and Warrior miscues at the net contributed to the opening-set win for the Sabercats (1-0)
  • MBU 25-19 WLC
    • Neither team held more than a three-point lead throughout the opening exchanges of another tight set, but the turning point came after the Sabercats strung together an 8-0 run after going down 14-12. Alison Renz led the charge as the Sabercats seized the game at the pivotal point. Alexis Johnson ended the game with a kill to put the Sabercats on the brink of victory (2-0)
  • MBU 25-20 WLC
    • With the momentum behind them, the Sabercats soon ended the match, but not without a struggle from the visitors, who once again proved to be a difficult obstacle to evade. Renz rounded out her 17-kill tally on the night while an active Katie Bender (16 digs) did her part to stymie the Warriors attack. At the end of a lively night in Watertown, the Sabercats had secured their second home win of the week, their fourth home win in four matches, and nine straight wins (3-0)
