Bueltel, DeAngelo Grab Weekly Awards

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- For their Regional Championship exploits last weekend, Lexi Bueltel and Austin DeAngelo have been named Student-Athletes of the Week by the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Bueltel stepped her game up to propel the Sabercats to another sweep of the NCCAA North Region Volleyball Tournament. Bueltel amassed 35 kills over the 3-match weekend and had a line of 16-1-30 in the semifinal against Emmaus Bible College. For good measure, the middle blocker added 20 digs and 10 blocks to help the Sabercats to straight-set sweeps of Calvary, Emmaus, and Providence.

The senior led by example all weekend and was named as the North Region Player of the Year. This week, Bueltel and the Sabercats prepare for next weekend's NCCAA DII National Tournament.

In the NCCAA Regional Semifinal, DeAngelo not only played in his first game this season, he netted his first collegiate goal as well. That goal came with just 27 seconds left and won the Sabercats the game in dramatic style.

But the goal is just a part of the story. DeAngelo's is a comeback story - the goal came in his first competitive game in 364 days. Leading up to the semifinal, DeAngelo had been on the sidelines, patiently rehabbing an injury.

DeAngelo proved to be a consistent possession option during the regional tournament and helped the Sabercats to a runner-up finish following that 1-0 victory over Faith Baptist.
