Akers Tabbed as NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The National Christian College Athletic Association has named Nathan Akers as the NCCAA DII Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 4-9, as was announced last night by the NCCAA.

Akers, a senior out of Loveland, Colorado, scored the game-winning goal in the Sabercats' 1-0 home-opener win against the Rockford University Regents last Tuesday. Akers was the danger man up top for MBU that day, as he fired off all 4 of the Sabercats' shots.

For MBU, that was the third consecutive home win against the Regents, and the Sabercats hold a 4-1-1 advantage in the series against their NCAA DIII rivals since 2010.

Later on in the week, Akers and the Sabercats fell, 0-4, on the road at Beloit College, and finished the week with a 1-1 record.

The Sabercats will look to add their second home win of the season as they return to action today against the Lakeland University Muskies. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on the MBU campus.
