Risma, Vander Pluym Snag Weekly Honors
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Women's Soccer's Audrey Risma and Women's Cross Country's Sarah Vander Pluym were named NCCAA Student-Athletes of the week for their exploits during the week of October 17th, as was announced today by the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association.
Sarah Vander Pluym set her personal record for her collegiate career at the Oshkosh Open hosted by UW-Oshkosh on Friday, October 21st at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Vander Pluym finished 4th on the day to help the Sabercats win the event. Vander Pluym's 6K time of 25:41 translated into a 6:54/mile pace.
Audrey Risma continued her scoring streak in her final home game at MBU by scoring a game-winning penalty kick in the first half of a 2-0 win against the Pilots of Providence University College. Risma added an assist early in the second half to seal the NCCAA Regional victory for the Sabercats, who have been in the NCCAA National Rankings mix all season. Risma would go on to conclude her scoring streak by netting five goals in the last four games for the Sabercats.
Both Vander Pluym and Risma will now prepare for the NCCAA postseason with the rest of their teams. Cross Country (Men and Women) will run in the NCCAA National Meet on Saturday, November 12th at Choctaw Trails in Jackson, Mississippi.
Women's Soccer will travel to Ankeny Iowa for the NCCAA North Regional Tournament hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College. Seeding and schedules for the regional tournament will be announced.
