Polished Cougars Sneak Five Past Sabercats

WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Sabercats' search for a win was extended further on a cool afternoon in Watertown, as they fell to an impressive CUC squad by a score of 5-0. The Cougars displayed polished possession and unpredictable ball movement in their victory. With the result, the Sabercats fall to 1-3 for the season while the Cougars improve to 3-2-1.

How it Happened

  • 12' - After a giveaway in midfield by the Sabercats, the Cougars quickly countered with some well-placed passes, leading to a neat finish into the top-left corner from just inside the box (0-1)
  • 44' - Just before the break, the visitors extended their lead. After a well-struck shot was skillfully turned away by Hannah Anderson, Allison Kruk was on hand to bury the rebound (0-2)
  • 57' - 12 minutes into the second half, the Cougars' Meghan Vasseur capitalized on a misplaced Sabercat backpass and finished from inside the box to give the visitors some insurance (0-3)
  • 59' - Just two minutes later, Samantha Wozniak put the game beyond reach when she picked up a loose ball on the top of the box and fired a scorcher into the top-right corner from 25 yards away (0-4)
  • 83' - Wozniak was not done, and managed to score her second of the game as the clock wound down. After the ball was crossed in from the right-hand side, Wozniak applied the finishing touches of the attacking move to put the Cougars up by five (0-5)
  • On the day, the Cougars put 14 shots on goal to the Sabercats' one

"We came up against an athletic and organized CUC side. Certainly wasn't the result we were looking for, but I'm really proud of the girls' commitment to improvement - especially those who were stepping into new roles/positions today. Hats off to CUC for a well played game."
