Sabercats Score Eight in Parents' Day Victory

WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Sabercats supplemented their three first half goals with five in the second half to win in comfortable style against the Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles on Parents' Day. With the win, the Sabercats improve their NCCAA record to 2-0 for the year.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 8-0 Eagles
  • Venue: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Attendance: 172
  • Sabercats: now 3-7-1

How it Happened

  • 18'Audrey Risma held the scoresheet spotlight in the first half, as the senior collected a pass from midfield counterpart Alison Hernandez on the top of the box and fired into the bottom-right corner for the game's opening goal (1-0)
  • 28' - Ten minutes later, the duo switched roles when Hernandez slammed in a header from a pinpoint Risma corner kick (2-0)
  • 32' - Risma had the final say in the first half, as she scored from distance for the third time this year. Risma evaded an Eagle defender and sailed her shot into the top-left corner to close the first-half scoring (3-0)
  • 47' - Bethany Wright's toe-poke early in the second half set the tone for a high-scoring period. Wright ran on to a perfectly-weighted through ball from Julie Roer and touched it neatly around the oncoming goalkeeper (4-0)
  • 50' - Wright repaid Roer just three minutes later. After Wright's run took her inside the Faith box, she crossed it on the ground to the back post, where the waiting Roer finished confidently for the fifth goal (5-0)
  • 59' - The next goal came in the 59th minute. After Bethany Chesky collected the ball at the top of the box, her 18-yard effort seemed to be headed to the right side of the goal when Hernandez's clever deflection sent the ball to the left corner, deceiving the goalkeeper in the process (6-0)
  • 61' - Two minutes later, Chesky put her name on the goal-scorers' list, as she ran in front of her mark to finish a firm cross from Hannah McCutcheon (7-0)
  • 90' - Amanda Walton scored with just 00:02 left on the clock, after Christina Riley's shot was deflected toward the back post. Walton calmly placed the ball into the open corner to put an exclamation point on a high-scoring Parents' Day matchup (8-0)

From Coach Anderson

"I'm really excited for all the girls getting a chance to play in front of their families today. It was great to see us come out firing and be assertive with our play from the starting whistle. I thought our substitutes came off the bench well - bringing intensity and sharpness so our level of play did not drop. We now look forward to our next NCCAA North Region matchup on Monday!"
