Sabercats Break Goal Drought in Loss to Raiders

WATERTOWN, Wis. - On a chilly, rainy afternoon in Watertown, the Sabercats faced a familiar foe in the Raiders of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, whom the Sabercats have struggled against in recent fixtures. After a five-goal first half display from the Raiders, the game was put beyond reach by the Sabercats' hard-charging opponents in the second half.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 1-8 Raiders
  • Venue: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Attendance: 40
  • Sabercats: now 1-6, Raiders: now 6-2

How it Happened

  • 8' - The goals came fast and furious for MSOE, as Sara Travia netted her first goal in her hat-trick to put the visitors up 1-0. Just one minute later, Travia played the role of assistant to Carley Mitus, who put the Raiders on the board again (0-2)
  • 30' - Travia broke in behind the Sabercat back line on two more occasions in quick succession, beating Anderson from close range to net her third and the Raiders' fourth (0-4)
  • 76' - After two more goals from the Raiders snuck through, the Sabercats had their turn to score. After Hannah McCutcheon evaded her defender on the wing, the Junior's cross was deflected by a Raider into the back of the net for an own goal (1-6)
  • 85' - Erika Spanbauer quickly netted a brace during the final 10 minutes, as she scored just two minutes apart to end the scoring of a long day for the Sabercats (1-8)
  • With the loss, the Sabercats see the all-time series fall in MSOE's favor to 9-13-1

From Coach Anderson

"Congratulations to MSOE, a side with great class, for the victory today. We set clear objectives for our players today and we stuck to the task for all 90 minutes. So, this performance gives me encouragement regardless of the outcome. We will continue building on this foundation!"
