Sabercats End Regular Season with Win in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Sabercats ended the regular season on a high note by blanking the Regents of Rockford University 3-0. The scoreline between the Sabercats and the Regents was the same as it was during the 2015 season, but this time the scoresheet saw some different names.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 3-0 Regents
  • Venue: Wedgbury Stadium
  • Attendance: 32
  • Sabercats: now 5-7-1 to finish the regular season

How it Happened

  • 56' - Hannah McCutcheon broke the deadlock just over 10 minutes into the second half by finishing a deflection off of the Regents' keeper (1-0)
  • 57' - Audrey Risma continued her scoring run just one minute later when she finished a Bethany Chesky pass from 10 yards out. The goal was Risma's fifth in the last four games (2-0)
  • 75' - After Bethany Chesky collected the loose ball in midfield, she slotted a perfectly-weighted pass into the path of McCutcheon, who was able to sneak the ball into the net at the near post to put the exclamation point on a three-goal afternoon. The assist was Chesky's second on the afternoon (3-0)
  • Hannah Anderson earned the win and the shutout by making three saves on the day

From Coach Anderson

"We were able to rally in the second half and take advantage of the opportunities we were creating. Our seniors led the way in producing scoring chances and making assertive plays with the ball even when we had started slow. Now we look forward to the regional tournament, and we will focus our training toward that end."
