Sabercats' Comeback Falls Short at Silver Lake

MANITOWOC, Wis. --- In a tight matchup with the Lakers of Silver Lake College (NAIA), the Sabercats lost an early lead to a mid-game Lakers' surge, falling 64-66 on the night. The Sabercats shot 42.6 percent from the field and had four players reach double-digit points as they fell back to 7-8 for the season.

Hanna Glaze - who led MBU with 18 points on the night - helped start the game on the right foot for the visitors, who surged into a 21-13 lead through the first ten minutes and extended that lead with 12 unanswered points to begin the second quarter. While the offense took their chances, the Sabercats' defense forced missed opportunities from the Lakers, who shot a non-threatening 7/37 in the first half alone.

While the Sabercats seemed to be in control, the Lakers began to chip away at the lead, posting a 17-4 run to end the first half with momentum. Ashley Rumlow contributed 20 points on the night while knocking down five shots from behind the arc. MBU ran into some foul trouble and gave Silver Lake 12 points from the line in the first half.

Entering the break, MBU had the lead, but Silver Lake had the momentum. (35-31)

After the break, the Lakers picked up where they left off by scoring 20 points in the third quarter to take a 47-51 lead into the fourth. Rumlow was backed up by Amanda Kudic, who tallied 17 points coming off the pine.

The Sabercats nearly pulled off the comeback in the fourth quarter, as each of the Johnson Sisters reached double-digit points to spur a 17-point Sabercat effort, but the third-quarter lead that the Lakers built proved unbeatable in the end. (64-66)

The Sabercats collected one more board than the Lakers while posting a superior shooting percentage. Only four points came from the bench for MBU, as Glaze and the Johnson's provided the lion's share of the scoring.

With the cancelation of the Sabercats' away game at Moody Bible Institute this weekend, the next game will be Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 5:00 p.m. when the Sabercats host the Scarlet Hawks of the Illinois Institute of Technology.

The Sabercats have already defeated their AD3I opponents 52-38 when the two teams met in Chicago earlier this month. You can watch the game live at mbusabercats.com/live.
