WATERTOWN, Wis. --- The Sabercats made it a perfect 4-0 this season against NCCAA regional opponents, as they handled the Moody Bible Institute Archers by a score of 76-37. Four different MBU players recorded double-digit points and the team shot over 50 percent from the field for the game.
With the win, the Sabercats improve to 12-11 on the season, which includes a 7-4 record against all NCCAA opponents.
The Sabercats met little resistance in the opening stages of the game. They cruised out to a 13-0 lead through the first six minutes and led by a score of 22-3 at the end of the first quarter. Alexis Johnson led the relentless Sabercats offense with 10 points, and would go on to lead them with 14 points for the game.
MBU came out shooting in the second quarter, and looked alert and up-tempo as Kelsey Johnson and Harmony Bailey knocked down a couple of deep two's to extend the Sabercats' lead to 25 just three minutes into the period. The Sabercats did not try anything from downtown, as they posted a dozen points from inside the arc in the opening four minutes.
Maisy Alldredge did knock down a three-pointer for MBU inside the final three minutes of the quarter, and the Archers followed suit shortly afterwards to bring themselves up to double digits. At the halftime break, MBU had shot over 50 percent from the field while limiting their turnovers to seven to lead by 24 going into the break. (41-17)
MBU shut out Moody in the first seven minutes of the third and kept the offense going, as they posted 22 points in the 10-minute segment using an aggressive approach on offense. Moody managed just four points in the third quarter, and trailed the Sabercats by 42 heading into the final act. (63-21)
The final quarter turned out to be somewhat of a formality, but the Archers picked up their intensity and outscored the Sabercats despite the insurmountable deficit. The Sabercats found baskets to be the hardest to come by in the final quarter, as they only registered 13 points - a game low. All in all, though, it was a well-polished win for MBU, and they gain full regional momentum heading into the postseason.
The Sabercats sonclued their regular season at 3:00 p.m. Saturday for a Parents' Day event against the Lincoln CHristian University Red Lions. The Sabercats took a 50-33 win over LCU earlier this season, and will look to make it a double over their NCCAA DI opponents this season.
