INDIANAPOLIS -- With the NCAA Division III's approval of a blanket waiver, every Sabercat that competes during the 2020-21 academic year will do so without being charged a season of eligibility.

"This one-time waiver provides our students the flexibility and clarity now to make the necessary decisions for the academic and athletic experiences," said Tori Murden McClure, chair of the Presidents Council. "We continue to see the impacts the COVID-19 pandemic is having on our student-athletes and membership, and the Presidents Council unanimously concluded this recommendation was appropriate."

Every varsity team at Maranatha has been negatively affected by institutional decisions pertaining to COVID-19, so this decision provides a silver lining, especially to the student-athletes that planned to attend Maranatha beyond their semesters of eligibility.

The NCCAA is expected to make its own decision in the following days (to be noted here), but the NCAA's approval of the waiver guarantees the option of an additional season for anyone wearing the Blue and Gold for 2020-21 - in some student-athletes' cases, that means a once-in-a-lifetime chance to compete in five seasons of intercollegiate athletics.
