OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Association of Division III Independents has released their All-Independent awards, and Dave Anderson (Women's Soccer) and Regina DeLozier (Women's Volleyball) have been voted as the coaches of the year for the 2018 fall season.
Both coaches were bestowed the honor after a vote by Association members.
Anderson
After falling just short of the .500 mark over his first two seasons at the helm, Anderson led this year's Sabercats team to an 8-7-1 record, which was their second above-.500 season since 2010.
The Sabercats posted wins over five NCAA DIII schools during the season and capped off their wins with an 8-1 rout of Lincoln Christian (NCCAA DI, NAIA), and two straight wins against NCCAA regional opponents, Faith Baptist.
This is Anderson's first AD3I Coach of the Year honor, and it is the first one for the program. Anderson was also named as the NCCAA DII North Region Coach of the Year at the North Region Championships three weeks ago.
DeLozier
DeLozier led the Sabercats to their fourth consecutive NCCAA DII National Championship match, as the Sabercats were just one win away from the second "fourpeat" in program history.
DeLozier and the Sabercats made a memorable run at the national stage, defeating #3 Geneva and #4 Emmaus Bible before falling to the #1-seeded Bob Jones University Bruins in the championship match. All told, the Sabercats finished with a record of 24-13, which included a 13-1 showing against NCCAA DII competition.
This was the third time that DeLozier has been voted as the Coach of the Year by her AD3I colleagues.
