Sponable Grabs Second AD3I Award of the Season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Alexis Sponable scored a hat-trick in just under seven minutes last week, and the Association of Division III Independents took notice.

Sponable was named the AD3I Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, as she netted three goals in the Sabercats' 3-1 defeat of Blackburn last Friday. On the day, the sophomore fired seven shots, five of which were on goal.

Two of her goals came from outside the box, as she bagged a free kick from 22 yards before scoring from the fun of play from almost exactly the same spot.

Sponable now has six goals this season, moving her career total to 22, which lands her at ninth in the all-time charts for Maranatha Women's Soccer. The Middleville, Michigan native now has 45 career points, and she needs 52 points to break into the top 10 in career points.*

Sponable and the Sabercats went 1-1 last week and will resume play at home with a 1:30 p.m. clash with Finlandia this afternoon. Watch live at mbusabercats.com/live.
