Reynolds Rewarded

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Maranatha Baptist University Athletic Department has named Don Reynolds as an inductee into the Maranatha Athletics hall of fame.

The award goes to Reynolds in recognition of his accomplishments on the field and court as a Maranatha Crusader (1986-1990), and off the court as a Coach, Youth Pastor, Senior Pastor, father and grandfather, and for his dedication to Maranatha athletes and athletic competition.

As a student-athlete, Reynolds competed in all three seasons, earning varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. During his collegiate career, Reynolds received numerous awards:

  • Team MVP (4)
  • NCCAA All-Region (4)
  • NCCAA All-American
  • LMC All-Conference (NCAA)
  • NCCAA DII National Champion (1990 - Men's Basketball)

Most known for his basketball prowess, Reynolds ended his Maranatha career in the best way possible: with an NCCAA national championship and an all-tournament honor to boot. Reynolds ranks 10th in career points, racking up 1,249 in just 97 games. After his senior season, Reynolds was named as one of the 10 best basketball players in the NCCAA DII, earning 2nd-Team All-America honors.

As a side note, Reynolds holds the baseball program record of striking out 16 batters in one game - he fanned 16 Lakeland Muskies on April 18, 1988.

Not only was Reynolds an outstanding athlete, but he is a man of character. While wearing the Blue and Gold, Reynolds exemplified the spirit, enthusiasm, and work ethic that Maranatha desires to instill in every student-athlete.

Beyond the Field

After graduating from Maranatha with a Youth Ministries major and a Coaching minor, Reynolds has spent 27 years in ministry. Seven as a youth pastor, 11 years as the varsity basketball coach of New Life Christian Academy, and 20 years as a senior pastor.

Reynolds and his wife, Jill, have been married for 35 years and have seen four daughters (Ashley, Alison, Adrianne, and Amily) graduate from Maranatha.

"We are thrilled to induct Don Reynolds for the class of 2019!" said Rob Thompson, MBU Athletic Director. "Don was an outstanding athlete at Maranatha and is well-deserving of this recognition. As a pastor and educator, Don has carried his spirit of excellence in sports into the pulpit as he has ministered now for some 27 years as a pastor and youth pastor. We congratulate Don for his example both on and off the field!”
