St. Lawrence Honored

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has named Asa St. Lawrence as the 2019 Kyle Rote, Jr./Men's Soccer Game Plan 4 LIFE Award recipient.

The award is given to one student-athlete per sport in the NCCAA DII based on the student-athlete's playing prowess, academic standing, and ability to demonstrate Love, Integrity, Faith, and Excellence. From the 2019 pool of applicants, the NCCAA has given the MBU Senior the nod.

ST. LAWRENCE

The Senior from Chariton, Iowa has demonstrated leadership abilities that Maranatha values.

On the field, St. Lawrence is a take-charge leader, demonstrating the ability to lead the team as a sort of player-coach. "Asa makes our job as coaches easy," said Coach Jeff Pill. "Frequently, one of us coaches will prepare to give instruction, but Asa beats us to it. His insight as a player is something that is invaluable to the team.

"Asa’s focus and intelligence challenge the coaching staff to ensure we prepare and are intentional in our approach," Pill continued. "Our relationship with Asa is definitely iron sharpening iron. He consistently challenges us with new ideas and is responsible for generating off-season opportunities for the guys to play and improve.”

St. Lawrence is a two-year captain for the Sabercats, and the 2019 NCCAA North Region 1st-Team Selection has led the team with over 60 games played and started. Even as a defensive player, St. Lawrence has registered five career goals and eight assists, and his ability to organize the team on the field makes him a complete package.

St. Lawrence holds a 3.53 GPA in his Bible degree, and he made the difficult decision to sit out for the 2018 season in order to pursue an internship that would advance his ministry in the future. He is a two-time NCCAA Scholar-Athlete (2017, 2019) and has been named to the Dean's List at Maranatha Baptist University.
